Day 1: Touring central Rome. We hit multiple beautiful piazzas, the Pantheon, churches like Santa Maria in Trastevere, St. Agnes, and St. Ignazio, the Trevi Fountain (in restoration), and the Spanish Steps.
Day 2: A day at the Vatican! One of my favorite days consisted of entering the awe-inspiring St. Peter's Basilica and perusing the Vatican Museum to end the afternoon in the Sistine Chapel. I didn't sit down for 9 hours straight that day, but it was totally worth it.
Day 3: We had an early morning, returning to Vatican City to climb St. Peter's dome, which was indescribable. We spent the afternoon touring Baroque style churches. Prior to this trip, I hadn't taken an art class since 8th grade. Now, as a junior nursing major, I can identify differences between Baroque and Renaissance styles (from one afternoon in Italy).
Day 4: Finally, the Colosseum and Forum! We admired Capitoline Hill and the Vittorio Emanuele Monument before arriving at the Colosseum. It was massive and impressively modern in design. It was terribly cold, but also the last day of 2014! We weren't letting it get us down. We returned to the Colosseum that night for fireworks and concerts to bring in the new year.
